Spending time with Family for Christmas

Going to my hometown and visiting family is always fun and an adventure!! We try to get together everyday for a little something everyday whenever I come home......they love to spend time with me!! I've also tried to spend some time with my daddy at the nursing facility. All he really wants is to go home, but that's really not just possible and it's hard every time I leave him.
Me with daddy. Got him the new blanket because he is always cold! Also got the dancing Santa by the window for some entertainment.
Tonight we celebrated Christmas and we are leaving for home. Just love spending time with them and then we played some Wii Wheel of Fortune, boys vs. girls and the girls STOMPED the boys, especially after AJ (who had the controller) couldn't spell c-h-i-c-k-e-n correctly, hee-hee!! And he didn't even realize it until we all busted a gut laughing!!!
Usually all of these meetings with family mean food, and I mean food!!! We have the best cooks in our family! Lots of desserts that are the best, along with lots of other goodies and unfortunately this means that I have probably gained weight in just the few days that I have been here!  Going to have to work really hard and TRY to stop eating (that's the hard part!).
We draw names so not everyone will get or give a give when you open gifts when you do Christmas this way, so it doesn't look fair, but it all works out in the end!!
Here are some pictures of our celebration and thinking of family that can't be with us and hoping they will have a wonderful Christmas as well!!

Ben got a Nike dry fit shirt
AJ with the ever popular CASH!!

I got a beautiful dish and spoons from Bali!!

Rebekah got Walmart gift card!

I love all of you guys and wish we could all be together Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all of you!!

Today is our anniversary! It's incredibly hard for me to believe that it has been 29 years since I've been married! It's been great, rough, exciting, scary, incredibly tough, easy, boring, stimulating, so what I'm trying to say here is it's just like everything else in's not easy!!
Happy Anniversary Jim!! Love you!

Gwinnett Online Campus Staff

I work for Gwinnett Online Campus and it's a GREAT job! I am going to be retiring at the end of this school year and just participated in the last Christmas party that we have each year. We go out to eat and do a dirty Santa Christmas ornament exchange. I absolutely LOVE the people I work with, they are the best in the world and such a smart group of people!! The students of Gwinnett County Online are fortunate to have these people as teachers and advocates for success!!! This is the part I will miss the MOST when I retire!

It is has been such fun working with these people! They are simply the BEST!!!
My wish is for each of them to have a wonderful Christmas!

In Tribute to my Mom!

I like themed Christmas trees! A friend of mine has one in her kitchen and I decided that I wanted to create a kitchen tree this year! And since my mom was such a great cook and I have a few of her kitchen items now I thought I would make a kitchen tree in tribute to my mother! So I wanted a bit smaller tree and went to one of my favorite Christmas stores and found one that was pre-lite and was deeply discounted because it had a bent leg, but it is really fine and no one will even notice it!!! So I tied ribbons to mom's cookie cutters and bought a couple of "kitchen" type of ornaments and used a few that I already had and here is my Kitchen Tree!

Hope you like my tree!! Love and miss my momma!!

Thanksgiving Thankfulness!!

This year I am thankful to be spending time with my family! We spent the day at Janet and Jim's and we were able to bring daddy to the house to enjoy some time with the family! It was so great having him home with us! I've spend many thanksgivings with these people and this year is the first time I've really notice how "old" we are all getting.......the kids have all just about grown up and daddy is still with us, however he is just not in great shape. I'm so grateful to my brother for picking him up and bringing him home to spend time with us....this is not easy and he was so angry when he had to go and was willing to fight Jim for disturbing his peacefulness in the recliner. These are some of my favorite people to be around.....I know some of you may find that hard to believe, but family is what is really important! To tell all of our old stories on each other and celebrate life with each other is truly a blessing!! I am going to miss daddy, Colleen, Marion and Ken Jordan when they won't be joining us any more and just really grateful God allowed us all to be together one more year!!
These are the pictures of a few of these people!
Daddy mashing potatoes with Ben and Jordan. This is tradition!

I love my family and am very thankful for them on this Thanksgiving Day!!

Little I Show

This past Sunday the Block and Bridle Club at the University of Georgia hosted the Little I Show. It features college students competing in the  showing of different animal species, including sheep, hogs, horses, dairy cows, and beef cows. You select the species you want to show and the top two winners of those divisions then compete in a round robin in which you show each of the species.
Jordan was in charge of the Horse division (which she won last year) and had the responsibility of training anyone signed up how to show horses in a showmanship pattern.
Here she is watching one of her students that was showing in the ring at the time.
Brittany Davis won the horse division and here she is receiving her trophy.

Here are some pictures from the round robin competition. Jordan's roommate won her species division and eventually was the reserve champion of the entire competition!! Way to go Austin!

And here are the two winners!!

Got some great candid shots around the arena.....

Here is Jordan instructing some of the top ten on how to show in the Horse species and the pattern they will have to perform for the competition.
Just wanted to give kudos to the Block and Bridle Club on a really fun show!!
Jordan has very much enjoyed participating and helping with all the activities of this club. Look forward to my post in the Spring about the Rodeo Block and Bridle puts on....can't wait to see it this year!!

Tough Times

Wow, sometimes life just hands you some really difficult situations all at once! Traveled to Florida late last Thursday to meet with a lawyer to talk about daddy's situation. Glad we did though, since I think there is a good solution for all sides.
And unfortunately got more bad news on Sunday morning. Barbara Reed passed away. Barbara and Bob own the barn where we board Jordan's horses. She has been dealing with cancer for years, yet she managed to continue to work throughout the chemotherapy and radiation. She also loved horses and showing and she won many events on Jordan's beloved Jeremy.Still active in her 60's, Jeremy always took care of Barbara and it may have helped that she also took care of him!! She was still battling through all her treatments and planning on showing at Newton County in the Spring. Barbara was also a teacher that loved working with the difficult students that most teachers don't want to deal with. She had incredible patience and knew the right things to say and do to reach them! Gwinnett County has lost one of it's best assets and she will be sorely missed!
Pray for Bob her husband who is now incredibly lonely and dealing with the barn duties alone at this point. He misses her horribly.
So here are a few pictures of Barbara showing and winning!! Rest In Peace Barbara........

Fun Florida-Georgia Saturday!!

Hi Everyone! Saturday was the annual Florida-Georgia game and I usually make some goodies and have friends over for the game, however everyone seemed to be out of town this year! So it was just Jim and I hanging around the house and enjoying this rivalry we've had for over 25 years..........and I'm happy to say that it came out well for me again this year!! Go Gators!! It did take Overtime this year and that was a bit stressful! But they did pull it out in the end and I'm a Happy Gator that lives deep in enemy territory with a daughter that lies within the enemy camp (she goes to school there)!  Oh well.....I'm good for another year here in Georgia!!!

So I wanted to share what I made for the dessert part of the goodies this year......something new I've been wanting to try and they came out well. I started simple with the cake balls. I got this recipe from one of my favorite new blogs to read, Bakerella. I even bought her book to use!

These are what mine looked like with her book!
 Don't they look yummy???

I just think these cake pops are a very cool idea and so many ways to decorate!! I stayed simple today and they turned out well.....will definitely be trying these again for the holidays!!

New Basement Living

Well the basement is done and mostly furnished, it will still be an ongoing project for some time. However the living area is complete, except nothing on walls yet. We got the new TV hooked up just in time for the Florida-Georgia game so that we can enjoy it even larger than all of the others.
That's a genuine antique piano......It was Jim's grandmother's and we had it refinished a few years ago. It's absolutely gorgeous, but it's heavy to move! The insides now need help, but there isn't anyone that plays it so it won't do a lot of good!
And you can see into the exercise room and it's definitely getting it's share of use as well.  Still got to find a new years of use out of my old one and it finally got chunked as we began work on this basement.

And on the other side we've purchased a little counter height table with drop leaves and two can view the TV nicely from it as well!
Used all of our old furniture and it works well down here!
And I'm working on the computer down here.....didn't know if the wireless would work here or not, but yeah, it does!!
So we have lots more room for visitors if you would like to come and see us!! And you all know who I'm talking about!!!
Come and enjoy the basement with us soon!!!

Weekend in Kentucky

Wow, it's been a whirlwind weekend! Lots of fun things in Kentucky. Here are just a few:
When was the last time someone pumped your gas???

In Harrodsburg we found that station. Ft. Harrod is the oldest settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains and recreated old fort there. This NEAT old tree is there although it is the unofficial champion tree.

And of course there is was the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. We didn't stay for the entire slate of races, but managed to see 4 of the races. Won $2.80 (on a $2 bet) in Race 2 with a horse called Nina Fever. Jordan's dog is Nina, so that is why I placed that bet....highly technical betting!!

Then we spent the late afternoon at Ashford Stud Farm (American division of Coolmore Farms of Ireland) where Justyn is employed now. The farm is just gorgeous!!

And then back to look at the land we looked at yesterday.....what do you think?? Would this make a nice farm for Justyn and Jordan and in a bit of time Cheryl and Jim?? We really like this one!! This is from the high point looking back to the big line of trees. It's just a bit over 30 acres!

One never knows.......stay tuned!

Saturday at UGA Tailgate

Well, it's true......I went to a tailgating party on Saturday in Athens and actually cheered for UGA. I know those of you that know me, find this hard to believe, since I am a die-hard Florida Gator fan. However, my daughter is a senior at UGA and almost all of my friends are UGA fans (hard to believe when I only live 40 miles from Athens I know!)
Jim and I were invited to tailgate with friends on the lawn of Global Escapes, which happens to be situated on South Milledge Ave., so it's right in the thick of action on Bulldog Saturdays.

This is Jim with two of his best friends from "earlier days". That's Chuck, Jim, and Charles! It was a beautiful day, you couldn't have asked for better weather, the food was fabulous and plentiful and made some new friends. One of which was Ella the owner of Global Escapes and I will be calling her to help in planning my trip this summer to Costa Rica. We are planning a trip there this coming summer after The Wedding, The 60th Birthday, and The Retirement!!! All of those are great reasons to take a fun trip and just relax and enjoy!! Any of our friends that would like to join us on this trip, let me know and maybe we can get some better rates!! the way....several friends have already inquired, I wore white shorts with, a black shirt on pictures of me (I'm always behind the camera). I did buy a UGA bracelet that I wore on Saturday, but that will be Jordan's now!!!
