Birthday Dinner

To celebrate Jordan's 21st birthday we took her to dinner at Five and Ten in Athens, GA. and the food was awesome! Jordan was dressed to the 9's! She looked great! The best was the homemade ice cream in unusual flavors....Jordan has pistachio and we had the salty caramel.

Our waiter brought her dessert plate with a candle for her birthday!
Jordan had the Frogmore Stew and Jim and I had the Special of Skirt Steak with creamy spinach and scalloped potatoes. They were both excellent!
Now she will go and party with her friends this weekend and I hope they will all watch out for each other!
Have a good time, but be careful!

Also got a picture of the three of us.....Austin was home so she took it at the apartment!
Love you Jordan! Hope you have a great birthday week!!

Happy Birthday Jordan!

WOW!!!! 21 years ago today Jordan was born! I cannot believe it's been 21 years, but it has! Time really does fly by and your kids grow up before you know it!
Jim and I were blessed to be able to adopt her as a newborn and she was the most wonderful baby ever! She wasn't any trouble! She's as smart as a whip and has a fantastic personality! She absolutely loves animals of all kinds, but especially her horses!!
Jim and I are so incredibly proud of her! She will be graduating from University of Georgia in May and plans to attend graduate school somewhere.....not sure where yet!
Love you Jordan! Happy 21st Birthday!

Girls Night In!

Spend the Night Party!!! YEAHH!! After a horrible day at work on Friday......shocking news and very emotional day......me and my peeps had a Fun Girls Night IN!  We had a fun easy meal of spinach salad, pizza, and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert!!

Linda taught us how to crochet......or at least I should say TRIED to teach us!

We had some success, but still have a long way to go before our scarves are complete and presentable! However we had such fun!!! And after getting our great start there we watched SALT.....good movie!!

Love spending time with my friends and this is going to have to become at least a quarterly tradition if our schedules will allow!!! I highly recommend trying to get together with your friends and just relaxing and enjoying their company. Also consider trying to learn a new skill or craft that one friend is an "expert" at! Definitely a way to expand your horizons!!!

Snow Storm 2011

Long week here in the metro Atlanta area! Lots of snow still on the ground. However, you see it wasn't just snow....there was sleet and freezing temperatures all week, so it made getting out and around an adventure! So I choose not to go to Baltimore with Jim due to the weather. Many of the places I wanted to tour were not going to be operating due to snow and ice there as well. So although Gwinnett County Public Schools were out ALL week (yes 5 whole days....which in my 30 years has never happened before), Gwinnett Online Campus still was working because, well frankly, we can! We have a new semester beginning in 2 weeks AND we are moving to a new platform (D2L-for those of you that know what I'm talking about). Still learning about everything with the new system and frankly don't have all the answers as the Technologist on campus, but we've worked through many issues, but alas there are many more!

I did need to get out yesterday, due to dental appointment, picking up new glasses and getting car tag. Once I slid down the driveway I was good! The worst road conditions were on the road our subdivision is on, there is a bit of shade and just wasn't getting the sun or the warmth long enough to melt it away! But the major roads were very good and was able to get where I needed without any problems!
The problems began on my return to the house.......I couldn't get my car up the driveway!! AAARRRGGGHHH!! So I waited until about 3:00pm thinking the warmth of the day would help (it did), but since Jim and the golf cart had been up and down the driveway a few times earlier in the week it had packed down the snow and had frozen over into ice!! No salt at the Mitchell house (or kitty litter) to assist, so that meant the shovel! I got out there and picked at, and shoveled that mess trying to clear a path so that I could drive up. Well that was an adventure I don't want to soon repeat!

Thought I had it after 30-45 minutes so I got back in the car and tried.......didn't work, but I was up off the road and though oh well, I'll just leave it parked here. Put it in park and put on the emergency brake and promptly began sliding back down into the road.
Well.....that wasn't going to work, so I parked it again and got the shovel back out and tried some more. You know I had on my coat and was sweating like crazy and the dogs were barking at me while I was doing this.....decided to take a break and really got hot when I came back in the house. Let the dogs out for a while and rested.
Headed back out after a break to shovel and pick at the ice again........I'm getting really sick and tired of this mess at this point. My neighbors were out this time cleaning the snow off of their sidewalk to the front door. These are retired folks and probably right at 70 years old. So they work there way around and I'm picking away. Try again in the car.......got a little further but not where I need to be. Getting madder as more time has gone by and still no success. My body is also getting very sore at this point (how do people up north do this all the time???) Ok.....so thinking that just a bit more and my tires can get a grip and I'll be done. So work a bit more and try again.......no luck and now I'm so frustrated and angry and hot.
Go into the house to work on something else for a minute and to rest again. Work with school stuff and actually had success, so I felt a little better and rested so I decided one last time to get a bit more and feeling like I should really be able to make it this last time. So I get the shovel out one more time and worked with a vengence and thought it was just about ready and my neighbor, Marge, comes out with her shovel and says she has just got to come out and help me......so she helps me finish up moving a few more chunks of the frozen stuff and I think we've got it. I also feel bad that she came out to help......I definitely owe her something for that!!

Well I decided to try one more time.......YEAHHHHH!! Finally was able to make it, did burn some rubber on my driveway but I made it. Got the car in the garage and was very happy and tired!
Here is what it looked like when I finally was able to achieve success!!!

Later in the evening I took a really long, hot shower to help the aching body and it's not too bad the next morning!! Thank goodness!

So after resting and reflecting I have a couple of thoughts........

....the next house I buy will NOT have a hill for a driveway !!

....or I may have to get a truck with 4 wheel drive like everyone else in the house (none of them were here though to help)!!! Think that would work?

...why in the HECK do people live in the areas that recieve this kind of snow??? I'm a Florida girl that moved to Georgia and is ready to retire to somewhere warm or at least without snow or the thought of snow removal!! I really like this one the best!!!

So how do you live where it's cold and deal with this??? And more importantly WHY????
Ya'll have a nice day!!!

Snow Storm 2011

Tape measure showing 5 1/2 inches
Lots and lots of snow piled high
Here in the Atlanta area we are experiencing another storm and boy is it looking bad!  The snow has been beautiful, however it's headed toward sleet and ice, which is always dangerous! This is the most snow I've seen fall and accumulate here in this area since I moved here in 1981.

Out in the golf cart with the dogs....they love going out in golf cart no matter the weather

At the Waffle House on Hwy. 78 with golf cart showing through window. Also the Kroger is across the street and there is essentially no one there. Using one of my old smaller cameras and clearly the date is not correct on this photo.....I've now fixed it......again!!

So it's really beautiful to look at and fun to play in (if you are dressed properly). However it can be very dangerous.....so that is why I'm staying home and not really going much of anywhere. Schools were cancelled today and there is a very good possibility they will be cancelled tomorrow.
Jim and I are supposed to fly to Baltimore, MD on Wednesday afternoon for the National Soccer Coaches Convention, but who knows whether we will be able to do that or not.........more later!!
Anyone want to come out and play??

Happy New Year!

Just a quick post to wish you all the very best in 2011! As with most of us, it's a good time to reflect and think about the coming year and all of our hopes, wishes, and dreams. I am not one for resolutions, however as I've gotten older and this time of year comes around you think about all of the small things that really make a difference. With retirement, just 5 months away (Woo Hoo!) and Jordan's graduation from college (Woo Hoo!) it causes me to be thinking about the next chapter in Cheryl's life, I thought I would publicly share some of my resolutions/promises......

1. to be kinder to everyone, even that driver that cuts me off or rides on my tail...
2. to spend most of my time with family and good friends, for they are what really matter the most!
3. to quit worry about the things that I don't have control over, yes this one is especially difficult because I am a control freak, but realize there is SO MUCH that I cannot control and you must let go and let God deal with that and rely on him for help!
If I can do those three things on a daily basis that would be so AWESOME!! I really hate to try and say that I'm going to lose weight or stop eating so much, even though they should be at the top of my list, so I won't, but they are always on my mind and will publicly acknowledge that here as well!! Just will also add.....

4. eat more healthy and not so much
5. exercise daily because it really does help me feel better!

What are your thoughts on the New Year and what it will bring for you??
