Great Weekend at the beach!!

Another weekend in Gulf Shores.....good for the soul before I begin the last week of final exams EVER!!!!
Here's more of the condo....

View when you walk into the front door....go through kitchen first and look all the way through to the porch
This is what the kitchen looks like....quite wide and has room for everything necessary.

And this is the dining area......big enough

And just to the right of the dining area is this bench....

This where I usually throw down all the stuff in my arms when I walk in.

It's been a great weekend with my friend Babs, that came with me......we've hung out at the beach most of the time......

This picture was taken of us at Lulu's......if you've never been you must go if you are ever in Gulf Shores. Lulu is Jimmy Buffett's sister and she's got this great place right on the Intercoastal Waterway, with these giant chairs, local musicians play on the Crazy Sista Stage, there is a giant sandbox in front of the stage for the kids to play in and there is a sand volleyball area and there is a climbing rope structure for the kids. All kinds of fun stuff to do and great food and music!!

Beach view for you to enjoy!!

Wish you were here!!!

Proud Mom Post!

This is going to be a bragging post because we had a great day today!! Jordan was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Georgia. It's an honor society and you are selected because you are in the top 10% of your college with your GPA!

And in addition, she went and picked up her cap and gown and found out that she is graduating Summa Cum Laude which is the closest you can get to a 4.0 average!  We are so proud of her accomplishments and cannot wait for the graduation ceremony on Friday, May 13th!!
So here are the pics from today. The ceremony was held in the Chapel, which is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings on campus.
Here is Jordan sitting in her place
Here she is receiving her pin
The entire group that was present out front of the chapel

Jordan is incredibly smart and she has shown everyone that she deserves these awards and honors!! And of course her dad and I are thrilled with everything she has accomplished!
Here's the proud mom....

Happy Easter

Holy Day.......

"He is not here, but is risen..." Hallelujah

Also a nice day to get together with family. Here is the obligatory family shot

Even though most are adults now.......there is one niece that is still young and Jordan hid the eggs for Megan out back. It's fun to watch, just glad I'm past that point now.

She finally found them all before we all had to head back to our respective homes.
So much to be thankful for in my life!!
Happy Easter everyone!

As you can see from my last post, we were at the Rodeo last night......thought I would give some credit to the college kids that put this thing on!
Jordan is a member of the Block and Bridle Club at the University of Georgia. Most of these students are getting degrees from the College of Animal and Dairy Sciences.....Jordan will get her's in May.....YEAH! (more on that later). This is the big fund raiser for the year and it's tons of fun!!
The Great Southland Stampede Rodeo (facebook page link) is the outfit hired and there are all kinds of vendors that come as well.....lots of activities to participate in while you wait for the rodeo to start.
Here are some pictures from last night!!
There is the Petting Zoo area so the kids can visit with baby animals

There was a "jumpy thing" that the kids and I guess adults could jump on....those kids sure were going high!
And of course there was the rodeo....this is a picture that I took that I thought was incredibly cool looking of one of the bronc riders!!
Here is a video of the Rodeo Queens an equestrian drill team.

Here is a short video of the rodeo clown doing amazing riding on his horse but looking like he hasn't a clue!!

Jordan and Emily didn't want to miss a thing so they climbed onto the top of the rails to view the bull riding and see the silliness of the clown act!
All in all it was a great way to spend Friday night! Lots of things to do and some really great food.....the funnel cake was fabulous!!!
If you are reading this on can still go....head on up to Athens and go to the rodeo. Here are some pictures from the rodeo from Athens Online....lots of good pics and Jordan and her buddies are in a few of them.

First Day of Work After Spring Break!

It's been a beautiful day today!!!

This is the view I see out my office window as I sit working on this Monday on my computer.

It was really hard to work today knowing that I only have until mid-May to finish working. But onward I pressed today! The tree kept distracting me........

And then every time the wind blew more flowers fell and it was like pink snow! Which is so much prettier than the white stuff we had back in January!!
And for those of you that were wondering if I got any sun with all the foggy and cloudy weather at the beach (you know how you are!)....of course I got sun! I was in fact sun-burned and as a result has some sun poisoning??? What do you think?

One day I will learn I cannot get my tan all in one day/sitting!!! I didn't use to have this problem when I was younger......oh well.....some things do get better with age!

Foggy Day!!

Today has been foggy at the beach and lagoon.....inland it's not so bad. We decided to shop for a few more things so that when anyone is at the condo there would be enough. We bought more towels today.....I think there are enough now. The bathrooms are about the same size, one has a closet and one does not! This is basically how they look.....
Now here are all the new towels in fun turquoise and green!

That is the all the work I'm doing for today....headed out to the pool!

Beach Day!

Today was Beach Day! This was my view...
Not a bad view, eh???

It's not been great is quite windy, and in reality it's quite cloudy, but it's beautiful nonetheless! I keep thinking how great it is to be out here on the beach and I own this place so I can come here anytime I want. I also thought of my momma today.....she would have so loved this! I do know that she is up there in heaven and is happy for me at this point!

Lunch time found us in the condo watching the Braves on is what the living area looks like.....

Right now the Braves are losing.....3-2, with the bases loaded, bottom of the 7th inning....arrrrgggghhhhh!
Maybe I'll head out to the pool! Need some more sun on the backside!
I love having time off!! How about you?

Fun at the New Condo

Finally able to enjoy some sun at the condo........laying out at the pool today. Can't go far because I'm waiting for the guy to come and install my wireless internet service.
Here is my view from the pool.....
And this is our condo and outside space!
Tomorrow is beach day!!! Yeah finally!
It has been a bit cool....the wind has been pretty strong as well. Monday night, one heck of a storm came through this area....cooled things right off and it's not as warm as I really want it to be, but it's headed that direction!
Tomorrow's post will include beach pictures and our little slice of paradise!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Happy Birthday Daddy! Today is daddy's 82nd birthday and he doesn't believe us! When Vicky was here 2 weeks ago we had a celebration and really thinks that his birthday was 2 weeks ago!
It is very difficult seeing my daddy this way.
2 years ago he had a stroke that he has never really recovered from. His left side is basically useless and it hurts if you even touch his left leg. He also has a permanent bladder catheter which is why he can now not come home because none of us are qualified to change this and it must be changed at least a couple of times a week. Momma was the nurse, but none of us choose to go that direction with our careers.

My daddy was a barber and never made a lot of money, and there were 5 kids, but we had a happy, normal and loving home! We always had food on the table, chores to do, dinner on table at home every night, and parents who cared about their children and would do whatever necessary in order to provide us with what we needed, and not necessarily what we wanted!
I really miss momma tons and wish she was here to give us help, support, guidance as we moved through this difficult time. I miss  my daddy too! The man I go and visit at the nursing facility is not really the same man, there are glimpses occasionally, but they are very rare anymore.

Writing this has helped me work through a lot of this, but it is still difficult and I want to thank my brother, Jimmy, and his wife Janet for being there for daddy. Also my sister Kay and her family for being there as well and visiting regularly. I try to come often, but it's not nearly enough. It's always emotional when I come home to visit and help, so I admire both Kay and Jimmy for visiting daddy every week, and almost every day between the two of them!
I love all of you!!! Happy Birthday Daddy!!

Back in Florida!

Spring Break begins at the end of today for me.....this is the last Spring Break! You are probably wondering why I am in Florida when we've just bought a condo in Gulf Shores, AL.....well needed to come and see daddy again while I can. Then I get to see the drive from Inverness to Gulf Shores, which is actually longer than the drive either from home to Gulf Shores or home to Inverness....lots of driving for me!!

So I've been to see daddy this morning. I woke him up and had to warm up my hands because they were really cold. He ate most of his breakfast which was excellent, but then he really wanted me to leave. That is hard to hear when you come to spend time and visit and see him, but I think he was in pain. I stayed a while, but when he said Go, Cheryl just go! I knew that I had to leave!

Left for exercising on the trail in runs right by the nursing facility and it's really beautiful. Doing this gives me exercise, time to think, listening to great music, and enjoying the nature along the trail.
view from one of the walks off the trail

view of lake from Liberty Walk
And then there is this sign about the alligators!! This is right behind Cooter Pond that doesn't connect to the other lakes. I'm sure that there are alligators in the lakes around Inverness, but thankfully I've never seen any!!

This is Cooter Pond water spray. This shot is from the trail and it looks over to the old shopping center in Inverness (Citrus Plaza-says AJ)....the one that had TG&Y at the other end from this any of you remember that???
And this is one of the new DeSoto Trail signs that mark the adventures of Hernando DeSoto the Spanish explorer! The history teacher in me needs you to know some of the history of the area that I lived in.

Nice walk/run today and when no one else was of the bridges has a "step" (it was part of the old trestle bridge for the railroad and they left part of it) and I used it for exercising as well. If you would have seen me you would have laughed!! Oh well.....I am trying to be healthy and exercise!!
First day of my Spring Break (well, not exactly, but I'm counting it)......not a bad day!
