A Day at the Zoo

Another week here in Gulf Shores has been great! Jordan got to come and she loves animals so much....we headed to the Gulf Shores Zoo

The first thing we see is the baby petting area and Jordan is absolutely in love with the white baby goat laying up against the fence! Most animals are absolutely adorable as babies though.

Here is the alligator that is quite large that has been at the zoo the longest!

Cute Alpaca
There are so many cute animals and we love to look at all of them, but here are just a few of what we saw
This is a Cavy...one of the largest rodents
Green cheek conyers

Jordan loves the birds so we spend some time hanging out in the bird area. She had  a green cheek conyer, so they are a favorite

Cottontop Tamarin
Several peacocks roam the entire grounds and they love to eat....if they think you might feed them, they will come after you!!
If you have ever had an encounter with a llama you've missed it! When Jordan was younger we were visiting a zoo in South Florida on a vacation and Jim was near the llama area and he was spit on by the llamas, which is one of their defense mechanisms.....and so when we saw these llamas and the fact that they spit on the couple that had just walked by, we moved quickly by the llamas. This one here just looks angry....he is definitely being defensive! We laughed and moved quickly by this guy!!

Here's a very low key guy.....a tortoise that was munching on the leaves!!
So these are only a few of the many animals that were in the zoo, but it was a fun day, just quite hot!!

Buffett Concert

It's been many years since we've been to see Jimmy Buffett. Good friends asked if we wanted to go and of course we said yes. Those of you that know my husband, know he is a Parrot Head and has every album ever put out by Jimmy Buffett.
Here are John and Frances tailgating before the concert
There are all manner of vehicles that come.....Landshark vehicle, golf cart, tiki party bus, tour buses, vehicles decked out with fins and shark mouths!!! Wow!!!

This golf cart was decked out....played music videos, blaring the music everywhere with a huge video screen right in the back. Had a fin on the top and that shark mouth in the back!

Here are some of the crazies wearing coconut bra tops....saw many of those.....saw some really awesome hats, lots of grass skirts, and leis.

Here is a video clip of the song, Fins to the Left, Fins to the Right......from our view on the lawn

It was a really great concert and he played a lot of his old stuff, which is what we like the best!!
Thanks for the invite John and Frances!!

Pirate Party!

AAARRRRGGGHHHH Maties! Celebrating three events in one is a bargain deal......we had a 60th birthday party for Jim.....who wanted the pirate theme......retirement party for me.....and graduation party for Jordan.
Here is how the backyard looked decorated
We hired  the guy, Matt, that does the trivia games we go to on Wednesday nights, for karaoke and it turned out to be a blast!!! We sang and we danced and played games and ate a low country boil.

Chuck the pirate showed up with his wench, Anne!

Jordan had a blast singing!!
I was going to share a couple of videos of karaoke, however, they seem to have all not made it onto my computer and they are lost now, rats!!  They would have really made you smile!
So here are more pictures of everyone enjoying themselves

This was one of the best parties I've ever thrown!!! Need to do this more often! We all had a really good time! It's great to have wonderful families to celebrate with (and help with the party!) and great friends to share it all with!

Graduation Weekend

What a great week this has been!! Retirement party, College Graduation, and Birthday party!  We've had a lot to celebrate at the Mitchell's this weekend!
But the most important of all is Jordan completing her undergraduate degree at UGA. Those of you that know me and how I love my Florida Gators, know how hard it is for me to cheer for those Georgia Bulldogs. However Friday night I didn't have any problem doing just that!

I'm so proud of my daughter and her accomplishments! She has finished college in 3 years, when many kids are taking up to 5 years, and she did it with a cumulative GPA of 3.90, Summa Cum Laude! There are just not enough words to express the pride I feel as a parent! She has grown into a wonderful young woman and will do great things!

I have made a movie/video of several of the events from Friday. Watch if you wish....it is 7 minutes long, but includes highlights from the day. The fireworks at the end of the ceremony were a wonderful way to end the night!!

I have learned that Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed.

Happy Mother's Day

In Tribute to my Mother

Momma went to be with Jesus on July 7, 2005 and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her in some way! I miss her dearly!

If your mother is still with you, then you should definitely talk to her and tell her you love her, hug her, appreciate her, and just spend time with her. I would also recommend interviewing her about her life......record all the little details possible and make it a story or storybook. It will make a wonderful little gift for you later, her, or for the grandkids one day!!

Love and Miss you Mom!
